Kati and William were married at Oakland Farm in Bear Creek, North Carolina in June of 2018. Not only are they friends of Erica, the mutual friend who introduced them is the manager of the spectacular wedding venue chosen for their special day. Oakland Farm consists of an open grand pavilion, a fully equipped and climate-controlled barn space with impeccable modern rustic details that is perfect for dancing the night away with guests, and a two-story, four-bedroom farmhouse that is included with all bookings for the ultimate in convenience. Accompanied by lush greenery that sprawls for acres, Oakland Farm was the ideal choice for this midsummer wedding.
The happy couple chose decor that suited their slightly rustic vibe that leaned more romantic and shabby chic. The color palette utilized classics such as blush, coral, and shades of blue with carefully-selected, vintage, white milk glass for the floral arrangements. Juliet garden roses, astilbe, and blue thistle rounded out the perfectly idyllic bouquets and table arrangements as a perfect finishing touch for the curated aesthetic.
It’s a long-standing superstition that rain on your wedding day is good luck for your marriage, but the torrential downpour that surprised everyone shortly before the ceremony began caused some momentary concern. Fortunately, Kati loves the rain, and the sudden storm soothed those nervous butterflies before it was time to say “I do.” The rain was gone as quick as it arrived and in its wake were some amazing clouds over cocktail hour and the appearance of a vibrant rainbow!
The ceremony itself was an incredibly heartfelt, secular humanist ceremony, led by Kenna of NC Secular Weddings. Kati and William chose to also include a sand unity ritual in their ceremony.
Following the vows, their reception featured scrumptious Mediterranean catering by the Chapel Hill-based Mediterranean Deli with two cakes from Weaver Street Market for dessert. The cakes were decorated on site by our own Erica, and everyone enjoyed having a choice of which to enjoy or even sampling a bit of both. To ensure as much inclusivity as possible, when it came time for the bouquet toss Kati and William encouraged all single attendees to catch it without confining it to one gender. The party lasted all night thanks to DJ John Avery, including karaoke to finish the festivities long after dark.
