North Carolina has become a popular elopement destination for adventurous couples. From the beaches of the Outer Banks to the scenic mountain vistas of Western NC, the state is full of unique and memorable locations for couples looking to take their intimate wedding or elopement off the beaten path.
For this photoshoot, we wanted to highlight the natural diversity available to couples choosing North Carolina for their elopements. We planned the photoshoot to take place over the course of a single weekend, featuring the same couple and vendor team for both locations. The logistics of such a photoshoot were complex, shooting both at sunset and sunrise in the Outer Banks, and then very early the next morning in the Pisgah National Forest, hiking up to a waterfall at dawn.
Showcasing non-traditional styling options as well as adventurous locations we used minimal decor and colors stories to complement each location. Slate blue, grays, ivory, and silvery greenery for the session a the Outer Banks and then goldenrod yellow, antique gold, and oranges as an accent to the greenery of the Pisgah Forest. The bouquets, designed by Folie à Deux Events, featured primarily North Carolina grown flowers and greenery plus specialty garden roses from Rose Story Farm in California.
The decor provided by Pop the Champagne was also selected to complement the natural surroundings with a modern, bohemian flair. We chose to keep decor minimal to truly accentuate the natural settings and to keep the setup simple to demonstrate what can be done for an intimate elopement with only a small crew of people.
It was important to us to find models who also embraced their own unique style and were of course, very much in love. Newlyweds, Carly & Nick were a perfect fit for the project because they are always down for an adventure and happy to wade out into the ocean or scale a waterfall in formal attire!
North Carolina has so much to offer beyond traditional, full scale Southern Weddings and for adventurous couples looking to plan meaningful and memorable elopements, the options are endless!
Hatteras Island, Outer Banks Elopement
Hatteras Island is a stunning location for an intimate, sunrise beach elopement. The team and our couple was up many hours before dawn to prepare for the sunrise.
Pisgah National Forest Waterfall Elopement
A short hike from the parking area, Tom’s Creek Falls in the Pisgah National Forest about 50 minutes from Asheville, NC is a perfect location for a romantic mountain elopement.
