Christine and Conor were married at Claxton Farm, just outside of Asheville, NC in May of 2018. For the couple and many of their guests this was a destination wedding. Christine and Conor live in Chicago, where Christine herself is a wedding photographer! They chose to have their wedding in Asheville because it was a place they felt connected to after visiting many times to see family.
Christine and Conor had a very clear sense of their priorities and what was important to them in planning their wedding. Guided by impeccable taste and experience with the wedding industry, they assembled an amazing team of wedding pros who were incredible to work with. Photography was obviously a top priority, so Christine and Conor brought in the photographer team, We are the Parsons, who traveled from Oklahoma to capture their mountain wedding!
The wedding day began with mimosas and Jersey Mike’s Subs at the mountain cabin they booked through AirBnB. Christine donned her custom made wedding gown and had a first look with her parents prior to meeting Conor for their first look. Both moments were just so sweet and emotional. Christine and Conor then took some time to hang with their pup, Rufio, since he couldn’t come to the wedding venue.
Next it was off to Craggy Gardens for some adventurous mountain top portraits! Craggy Gardens is a popular spot for wedding photos since it’s a fairly short hike to the top from the Blue Ridge Parkway and not too difficult to maneuver in your wedding attire. The trail is lined by a tunnel of Rhododendron trees and unique high-altitude plants that you can’t find anywhere else! The view from the top is simply stunning and not to be missed!
Back down the mountain and off to join the Wedding Party at Claxton Farms for portraits and to get ready for the ceremony. Christine and Conor have such a fun, supportive group of friends. We loved their portraits with the party because you can really feel the love and just how much fun everyone was having on the day!
Christine and Conor’s Ceremony was officiated by Conor’s sisters. There was a lot of laughing and crying from all sides. Christine surprised Conor by walking in to Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter, just the first of many subtle Harry Potter references in their wedding. When the song began, I (Erica) definitely started crying. It was so sweet and lovely, and I am a sucker for any music by John Williams. #nerdlife
An important element of their ceremony was the presentation of the Hangul, or Wedding Ducks which is a Korean wedding tradition. These carved wooden ducks represent peace, fidelity, and a life-long commitment to one another.
A funny moment of their ceremony was when Conor’s sisters realized that they had accidentally skipped over the ring exchange! So after Christine and Conor had been pronounced married and shared their kiss, they realized they forgot the rings and circled back to it. Everyone had a good laugh and just rolled with it!
Much of the decor for their wedding was handmade by Christine, Conor, and their family. The bouquets were made from paper flowers that Christine created out of Harry Potter book pages. The centerpieces and table name cards were designed by the couple and were named for the many places they have traveled together, and the gorgeous lace doilies on the table were handmade by Christine’s mother!
Christine and Conor opted for a cheesecake rather than wedding cake and then had a selection of delicious mini tiramisu and cheesecakes for their guests. They also cut their cheesecake at the beginning of the reception following their welcome speech. This was a slight nod to another Korean wedding tradition of cutting the cake during the ceremony, which would have not been possible with their outdoor ceremony.
The reception kicked off with a delicious dinner followed by some of the funniest toasts we have ever heard. The entire room was laughing. Christine and Conor prepared a choreographed first dance that was both sweet and funny, and really well done! Guests enjoyed dancing, playing lawn games and visiting with the farm animals. Chip the Alpaca was particularly fond of the attention! Later in the evening we got a fire pit going for s’mores and opened up the Whiskey and Cigar Bar! So classy!
Another mega cute thing that Christine and Conor did was to give Grandpa a send-off! He had to leave a little earlier in the evening and they wanted to make him feel special, so we gathered the family up and had what we are now calling the “tunnel of love” exit!
Looking back, this was one of the smoothest wedding coordination experiences we ever had. The venue and other vendors were all so fantastic to work with and Christine and Conor’s friends and family were absolutely delightful. Plus, it is always a treat to spend the weekend in Asheville. This was the first of four Asheville weddings we did in 2018, and we hope to return again for several in 2019 too!
