Elise and Jim’s colorful, bohemian, 1970’s inspired, coastal wedding in Kure Beach, NC was an all around delight. The weekend began with a music festival themed rehearsal dinner and welcome party in their family’s backyard. The ceremony was held the next day on a family owned property, followed by their reception at The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.

The most important thing to the couple was that their wedding be extremely fun and vibrant. Given their love of music festivals and the laid back beach lifestyle, it was important that these vibes come across in the design and flow of the weekend.

When we started thinking through the design of the weekend, color was the top priority. They sourced most of the decor by thrifting and by thinking outside of the usual “wedding” box and looking to the music festival scene for inspiration. The result was an eclectic mix of light up decor and favors, inflatable lounge chairs, and boho poufs and pillows.

For the floral design, we started with Elise’s love of purple and primarily focused on violet shades plus complimentary orange, pink, and red flowers. Locally sourced dahlias were the star of the show but we also were able to get some really bonkers deep purple anemones that were just stunning.

One of our favorite details was that they named their tables at dinner after bands and musicians they love. It was a fun way to showcase just how broad their taste in music is and to introduce their guests to musicians they may not had heard before.

The aquarium was an incredibly fun place to hold this wedding. We started with cocktail hour in the conservatory space, dinner in the balcony, and the dance party on the main floor in front of the two story shark tank.

Traveling for weddings is always a lot of fun for our team. We rented an airbnb not too far from the venue and had a little taste of off-season beach town life in between work. We found a few fabulous local spots for coffee, seafood, and tacos that kept us running through the busy weekend! Kure Beach is a very cool town and we hope to go back for another aquarium wedding soon!
